Een toevallige ontmoeting in de jungle op Bali verandert alles. Na maanden van zelfonderzoek keert hij huiswaarts met maar één hartenwens: de wereld weer kloppend maken. Sindsdien heeft Michèl zijn kunst gewijd aan het hart, een passie in een veelvoud van kleuren, materialen en afmetingen. Hij zegt het zo:

“Ik zeg niet dat ik mijn leven heb gegeven aan de kunst
Ik zeg liever dat het hart mij mijn leven heeft teruggegeven.”

People have different reactions to abstract art. Some often wonder about the story behind such unique pieces, which rely on energy and intentions, more than on a clear composition or visualized story within the frame. When Dutch artist Niels Weerheim asked Florian Rooz (curator of the Kroon Gallery) if he had a cool idea for a location to create the 4th piece in his series "External - Internal" in which Niels challenges himself by painting in highly unusual locations and circumstances, Florian Invited Niels to create his next piece on his ship (The Spirit of Amsterdam) during a small, private festival that he's been organizing with some friends to celebrate the coming of spring, in a secret anchorage on the inland waters of Holland. The plan was to not only to create this unique work of art together during the festival, but also to document the entire journey, from the first plank-stroke, to the crafting of the handmade framing and final presentation of the piece.

The result is a stunning story of energy and emotion, which hopefully shows the love and attention that goes into the creation of every unique piece of art you discover by Niels Weerheim and in the Kroon Gallery in general.

Self-taught Dutch photographer Daan Oude Elferink (1978) travels the world to explore and capture the beauty of forbidden, decayed and abandoned places. Daan has always been drawn to adventure and even as a child you could find him often secretly playing in an abandoned factory, not knowing that years later he would be taking pictures of them. The places he visits are not open for the public and permission pretty much never is given, because the places are too dangerous. That’s why often Daan needs to go to the extreme to find a way in by climbing high walls, rooftops, crawling through tunnels, etc.

Daan’s limited edition artworks have been exhibited in art galleries and art fairs in more than 20 cities all over the world, including Miami (USA), New York (USA), Paris (France), London (UK), Stockholm (Sweden), Bangalore (India), Singapore and obviously his home country The Netherlands.

Daan has released three books: Urban Exploration & Photography (2010-2012), Gift of Time (2012-2014) and Touched by Time (2014-2016). Touched by Time won the “European Book Price of the year 2017” awarded by the Federation of European Photographers in Sicily.
